Getting Web Site Information
Tip 10 : Extra Site Information
Getting detailed information about a web site is difficult. There is very little reliable, public information about web site traffic. This would only be straightforward if all web traffic went through a single computer system that could log it. Alexa ➚ have been collecting data for some years and their reports give a rough guide to site popularity. They gather the data from users who have installed their 'Alexa Toolbar'. However, not many people use the Toolbar and the statistics are skewed to geographical areas where the toolbar is most frequently used, for example in Korea. You may also find that the table of linked sites is well out of date. However, it is better than nothing and does give a rough guide to a site's general status.
